Terms of Use

1. About these Terms

These Terms of Use apply when you access or use the Becky’s Button website at beckysbutton.org, including public pages, articles, programme information, resources, forms and links provided through the site. By using the website, you agree to use it in accordance with these Terms and applicable law.

If a specific programme, event, donation service, volunteer arrangement, competition or other activity has separate terms, those specific terms will apply to that activity and will take priority to the extent of any inconsistency.

2. About Becky’s Button

Becky’s Button is a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales (registered charity number 1212641).

3. Information on this website

We aim to keep website information accurate, clear and current. However, programmes, partnerships, statistics, locations, laws, external services and other information can change. Unless a specific statement says otherwise, website content is provided for general information and awareness and should not be treated as legal, medical, clinical, safeguarding, security, counselling or other professional advice.

You should obtain appropriate professional advice or contact the relevant competent service where your circumstances require it.

4. Personal safety tools and safety information

Becky’s Button may provide information about personal safety alarms and distribute alarms through trusted organisations. The alarm is intended to give confidence and a means of drawing attention. No personal safety product can guarantee safety, deter or prevent violence, stop an attack, or replace emergency services, safeguarding arrangements, professional advice or appropriate risk assessment.

Any instructions supplied with a device should be followed. Users and partner organisations are responsible for considering the suitability of a device or activity for their own circumstances and for following applicable safeguarding, health and safety, institutional and local requirements.

5. Programmes, education and downloadable resources

Programme descriptions, educational materials, workshop information and downloadable resources are provided for the purposes stated on the relevant page. Unless Becky’s Button expressly agrees otherwise in writing, public website resources do not create a professional-client relationship, certification, accreditation or guarantee of any particular outcome.

Schools, universities, employers, partner organisations and other users remain responsible for their own legal, safeguarding, health and safety, equality, employment and professional obligations when using or adapting material.

6. Donations and fundraising

Donation buttons direct users to an external fundraising/payment provider (currently Enthuse). Payment processing takes place on the provider’s service and is subject to the provider’s own terms, privacy information and payment arrangements. Becky’s Button’s website does not process or store full card details.

If you believe a donation has been made in error, is duplicated, or requires a refund or other correction, please contact Becky’s Button and/or the payment provider promptly. We will handle refund requests fairly and in line with the Code of Fundraising Practice; whether a refund can be made may depend on the circumstances, applicable law and the payment provider’s processes.

Fundraising carried out in Becky’s Button’s name may be subject to separate approval, guidance and the Code of Fundraising Practice. A person must not represent that they are authorised to fundraise for or bind Becky’s Button unless the charity has given the relevant authority.

7. Intellectual property

Unless stated otherwise, the website and its content - including text, design, graphics, logos, photographs, videos, programme materials, downloadable resources and other intellectual property - are owned by Becky’s Button, licensed to Becky’s Button, or used with permission. Copyright, trade mark, database and other intellectual-property rights are protected by law.

  • You may view and use public website content for personal, non-commercial and legitimate educational/informational purposes.
  • You must not reproduce, modify, distribute, publish, sell, license, scrape, systematically extract or commercially exploit substantial website content without permission, except where law expressly allows it.
  • You must not remove copyright, attribution, trade mark, consent or other notices.
  • Photographs and stories may involve individuals, young people, partners or sensitive contexts. Permission to view a photo on the website is not permission to reuse it elsewhere.
  • Requests to reuse content should be sent through the Becky’s Button contact route.

8. Acceptable use

You must not knowingly use the website to:

  • break the law, infringe another person’s rights or facilitate unlawful conduct;
  • introduce malware, malicious code, automated attacks or harmful material;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the website, staff dashboard, database, accounts, systems or other users’ information;
  • interfere with security, availability, authentication, rate limits or technical controls;
  • submit knowingly false, defamatory, threatening, discriminatory, abusive or unlawful content through forms;
  • impersonate Becky’s Button, its staff, trustees, partners or another person; or
  • use the charity’s branding in a way that falsely implies endorsement, authority or partnership.

9. Information you submit

If you submit an enquiry, message or other information, you are responsible for ensuring that you have the right to provide it and that it is reasonably accurate. Do not submit another person’s sensitive personal information without an appropriate reason and authority.

General website forms are not intended for emergency reports, confidential safeguarding case files or urgent crisis communications. If there is an immediate risk of harm, contact the appropriate emergency or safeguarding service for your location.

10. Links and third-party services

The website may contain links to external websites, social platforms, donation services, videos, partner organisations and other resources. A link does not necessarily mean that Becky’s Button controls, endorses or accepts responsibility for every statement, security practice or service on the external site. Third-party terms and privacy policies may apply.

11. Website availability and changes

We may update, suspend, withdraw or change parts of the website for maintenance, security, content accuracy, legal compliance or operational reasons. We do not promise that the website, any page or any external service will always be available, uninterrupted, error-free or free from every security threat.

12. Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

Subject to that, and to the extent permitted by law, Becky’s Button is not responsible for losses arising solely from reliance on general website information, temporary website unavailability, events beyond our reasonable control, or the acts or omissions of independent third-party platforms. If you use the website as a consumer, nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights, including under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

13. Privacy, cookies and communications

Our Privacy Notice explains how we use personal information, and our Cookie Policy explains cookies and similar technologies. Marketing emails and newsletter communications are subject to applicable data-protection and electronic-marketing rules and include appropriate opt-out mechanisms.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms when the website, our services or the law changes. The current version should state the effective/last reviewed date. If a change is material, we may take reasonable steps to draw attention to it.

15. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms, and any non-contractual obligations arising from your use of the website, are governed by the law of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts. If you live outside the UK, nothing in these Terms removes mandatory protections that apply to you under the law of the country where you live.
